Fatal Incident on Interstate 580 Offramp: One Fatality Reported

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a tragic incident occurred on Sunday night near the Isabel Avenue offramp of westbound Interstate 580, resulting in the death of one individual.

The CHP received multiple reports at 9:22 p.m. from drivers who had to swerve to avoid an object on the road.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered two individuals lying in the roadway. This incident is potentially linked to a reported assault on an Uber driver who subsequently left the location.

Caltrans has provided additional information, stating that the Uber driver initially reported being assaulted by their passengers at around 9:30 p.m. Subsequently, the passengers exited the Uber while the driver continued driving onto Isabel Avenue.

Shortly after the passengers disembarked, the two individuals were struck, resulting in the fatality. The collision occurred in the lanes of the offramp shortly after it separates from Interstate 580.

Currently, it remains unclear whether the victims were hit by another vehicle or by the Uber itself.

At 9:47 p.m., the Alameda County Coroner was reportedly notified and called to the scene to assist with the situation.

Further investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and to establish a clearer understanding of the sequence of events leading to the fatality.
