While known for their abundance of oranges, alligators, and inability to run a problem free election, Florida can now also be known as the speeding state.
According to a national traffic study from Carinsurancequotes.com, drivers speeding in Florida or more likely to get caught and cited than in any oter state.
The study was compiled of data from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, CNBC.com, Governors Highway Safety Association, JoeTaxpayer.com, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the U.S. Census Bureau.
To be fair, the findings may not be as much a reflection of its drivers, but more a reflection of law enforcement agencies.
Florida ranks 10th in the nation for states with the worst speed traps.
In 2011, Florida police issued 17,995 traffic citations for speeding above the posted limit and 6,132 citations issued to motorists driving too fast for conditions according to the Florida Highway Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
While it may just sound like a scheme for the state of Florida to create revenue, it is actually great that the law enforcement agencies are taking initiative to fight this very dangerous maneuver many drivers attempt on the road every day.
Thousands of people are injured and killed on the roads each year due to speeding drivers.
